Environmental

As a manufacturer of Electronic products Lascar's products conform to the recently introduced Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive ensuring their impact on the environment is minimised. Lascar also conforms to the WEEE directive for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. See below for further details on these directives:

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament stipulates that certain hazardous substances must not be present above defined levels in products.

Lascar works with the entire supply chain (not just immediate suppliers) to ensure that all products comply with this directive. We have taken great care to ensure that the products are not only compliant but that they are as reliable as their predecessors. Now that the directive is in force nearly all parts manufactured by Lascar are RoHS compliant, however some industry sectors have exemptions and we continue to supply a small number of products to these sectors as non-RoHS.

How do I order RoHS compliant parts from Lascar Electronics?

Lascar's products do not have separate part numbers for RoHS stock so the ordering remains the same. Due to exemptions for certain products and industry sectors it is important that you make Lascar aware of whether you expect RoHS or non-RoHS stock to be delivered. Please indicate this clearly on any purchase orders or requests for quotation so that Lascar can deliver parts that meet your requirements.

How can I tell if a part delivered by Lascar is RoHS compliant?

All packing and technical literature for RoHS compliant parts supplied by Lascar Electronics carries one of two RoHS compliant stickers. Furthermore, each RoHS compliant line on an invoice is marked as such.

If you have any further questions regarding Lascar's products and the RoHS directive, or require documentation to confirm RoHS compliance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment or WEEE directive ensures that any product marked with the WEEE logo is separated from other waste streams to ensure that it is recycled in an environmentally sound manner.

Any product defined as 'finished' is subject to WEEE regulations. A finished product is defined by three criteria:

  1. A product with a housing i.e. not an OEM component or sub-assembly.
  2. A product either with an intelligent interface; RS232, PS/2 or USB or one that can operate on a stand-alone basis, i.e. independent of a host.
  3. A product that is dependent on an electric current to work properly.

All Lascar Electronics products that meet the above criteria are marked with the above WEEE logo. Any product not marked with the WEEE logo should be disposed of in normal waste streams as per current practice.

Under the U.K. implementation of the WEEE directive the following definitions apply:-
Historic WEEE - Goods shipped before 15h August 2005.
New WEEE - Goods shipped with the WEEE logo after 15th August 2005. Lascar Electronics Ltd., is registered as a supplier of WEEE with the Environment Agency and makes all the necessary declarations with regard to WEEE sold within the United Kingdom. At the end of life, Lascar Electronics Ltd., will accept the return of WEEE for the safe disposal and recycling as per the following:

Historic WEEE - Liability for Historic WEEE is applicable only where like for like purchases to replace the existing products is being negotiated. E.g. If 4000 of product A are being replaced with product B and that product B could be described as a replacement for product A, then the return of product A for recycling under the WEEE directive is acceptable. This collective producer responsibility for historic WEEE will end in 2013.
If no like for like, replacement sales are being negotiated, then Lascar Electronics Ltd. is not liable for Historic WEEE. In this situation, Lascar Electronics Ltd. may, at its own discretion, quote for the safe disposal of the goods.

New WEEE - Lascar Electronics Ltd., accepts liability for New WEEE at the end of life and will dispose of safely or recycle goods wherever possible. Lascar Electronics Ltd. does not accept any liability whatsoever for the remote collection, shipping costs or packaging of returned goods. All costs associated with the return of WEEE will be born by the customer. Before returning New WEEE the customer must first contact Lascar Electronics Ltd. and request a WMA (WEEE Management Authorisation) number.

Customers are responsible for the costs of shipping goods to the Central Collection Point and Lascar Electronics Ltd. accepts no liability whatsoever for any such costs.
